Our resident poet and barman extraordinaire John Connolly has written a poem, especially for the Galway Hurlers ahead of the All Ireland Final on Sunday. John Connolly has been part of the team for over 15 years and you’ll usually find him behind Sonny Molloy’s, our Whiskey Bar in The Front Door Pub. Well done JC.. an instant classic! Have a read and let us know what you think..

Gaillimh Abú

As the 3rd of September approaches, its off to Croker we go,

To face the mighty Deise, an unfamiliar foe.

With the streets of Galway buzzing, with a nervous anticipation,

We won’t take these lads lightly, 100% concentration.

Although we’re slightly favourites, that matters not a toss,

A sentiment that surely will be passed down by the boss.

With the players all united, having played so hard all year,

It’s not easy training in the rain, and staying off the beer.

The semi final was epic, looked a draw right at the end,

But then Canning received the sliotar, and through the uprights he did send.

Our fans will arrive in thousands, of that there is no doubt,

To cheer on The Tribesmen, and end a 29-year drought.

To win just once in such a long time really isn’t greedy,

Spurred on by the passing, of Galway legend Tony Keady.

And let’s not forget the Minors, a team we won’t ignore,

When they take on the Rebels, and soften the Cork man’s roar.

So let’s hope things go our way, and two trophies heading west,

For a wealth of hurling talent, in Galway we’re truly blessed.

Regardless of the outcome, a huge party will ensue,

With everybody chanting, the now famous GAILLIMH ABU.

From all the crew in The Front Door Pub, we wish the minor and senior hurlers the very best of lunch in the All Ireland Final.
